Martin Garage Door: The Beginning…

Martin Doors was founded in Santa Ana, CA, by Leno Martin, who invented one of the first one-piece overhead garage doors. It was the beginning of the end for the popular swinging garage door, and Martin Garage Doors was key in transforming the garage door scene on the West Coast. After moving to Utah, Martin changed its emphasis from one-piece garage doors to sectional ones in 1960. Thus began Martin’s transformation to remain the industry’s most innovative garage door business.

The Martin family developed ideas for panel steel, roll-formed, pre-painted, hot-dipped galvanized steel, and high-tensile steel sectional doors. Before they knew it, they began exporting garage doors internationally, and the first Martin television commercial aired in the 1980s. Manufacturing increased to 600 doors per day by 1990, and doors were being delivered to over 40 countries. But that was just the beginning.

Martin Door Manufacturing was honored to receive the “E” award from the President of the United States for Excellence in exporting in 1994. In 2000, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recognized the Martin Door family-owned business as a leader in promoting a safer product design. In 2001, Martin Door became the first UL-registered garage door manufacturer certified to the ISO 9001 quality standard.

In the words of the CPSC, “Martin builds to a higher standard.”

By 2006, Martin garage doors were found in over 80 countries. In 2011, Ken and Sandi Martin became the new owners of the Martin Door Manufacturing factory store in Las Vegas, NV, which is where Martin Doors of Nevada remains headquartered today.
